ACTIONS and EVENTS for and about PARTICIPATION
Our Individual Battles for Change Are Connected because of a system that no longer works for the people and the planet. That system, instead, is designed to work for only the wealthiest people and mega transnational corporations. For that reason, the critical issue today is to stop Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). President Obama has indicated that, if given Fast Track Authority, he intends to sign the TPP.
Neither Congress—nor We the People—have access to the TTP’s full content. With fast track approval—neither will have the chance to amend or comment.
‘Now’ is the strategic moment. Congress is expected to take up fast track for TPP during April and May. Defeating fast track would preemptively upset transnational corporate plans for a devastating power grab. Conversely, TPP passage would further undermine our national sovereignty and democracy—meaning, the power of human people to determine their own futures. More details: “Systemic Change Getting the Focus It Needs.”
Here are ways that you can fight back: Grassroots action is essential to the campaign Against Fast Track for Presidential Authority.
Exciting example of local action: Last week the Seattle City Council voted to pass a resolution against the TPP. Their victory was amazing, considering that both a US trade representative and big business interests did their best to block the Seattle resolution. Even President Obama called the Seattle mayor to try and stop it. The council voted 9-0 to oppose fast track trade authority.

First-ever MTA – North Carolina Statewide Action: Members of MTA Far-Western NC, working for the past few months with their Asheville and Charlotte area counterparts, managed to secure 22 primary and co-sponsors who have introduced NC House Joint Resolution 125 .
On Feb. 25th representatives of the WNC, MABCO and CAMTA affiliates descended on the NC Raleigh capital for the third-year-in-a-row “MTA Lobby Day.” There NC MTA lobbyists hand-delivered to NC legislators, a compelling information packet (designed and assembled by the Charlotte team). The Asheville and WNC members finalized the resolution for consensus by the group and did the research to facilitate their Lobby Day presentation.”
The new statewide group also held a midday press conference that opened with House Primary Sponsor, Rep. Verla Insko and Primary Senate Sponsor, Terry Van Duyn. Next, Avram Friedman (MTA-Sylva), Vicki Rowan (CAMTA) and Tom Coulson (MABCO) spoke definitively and passionately about the most impactful Move to Amend issues. Read the full story

REGULAR MEETINGS of MTA FAR-WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA—Sylva
Move to Amend’s affiliate in Far Western North Carolina is a partnered-coalition of Occupy WNC and The Canary Coalition. Guests and new members always welcome! The Western NC MTA affiliate meets 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the OccupyWNC General Assembly.
Our intent is to be a grassroots movement that is multi-racial, multi-generational, cross-gender orientation and identity, cross-party, cross-class and multi-cultural. Our goal is a 28th Amendment to the US Constitution—nothing less than an end to the constitutional rights of corporate “Personhood” and to elections where money is NOT “Speech.” Only then, can democracy become legal in the United States.
Next 2015 meetings: Tuesday, April 14thth and Tuesday, April 28th at Jackson County Justice Center, Room 246, 401 Grindstaff Road, Sylva NC 28779
