Reports on Old Business
NAACP branch AB54 Celebration, May 17th at Liberty Baptist church, Sylva. This chapter now has 140 members. The program was the election and installation of Officers. The The Rev. Charles Lee pastor of Liberty Baptist was elected President and Avram Freidman was elected 1st Vice Pres. Enrique Gomez, second VP After installation and speakers there was a BarBQ luncheon served in the church hall.
Meeting in Hendersonville with HC-CAFE, May 24th. There was a good turn-out and lots of issues discussed including the Time Line of Move to Amend. Alan reported that it gives us hope that we are not alone and we have a good group to share with.
Bryson City Gasland II movie event, May 31st. Garrett organized this. There were 14 people in attendance. More events are in the works for Western NC.
Demonstration across from Harrahs Casino where the Republicans were holding their State convention, June 7th. Avram organized, on very short notice, a rally with signs to protest issues that are affecting the constituents of these Legislators. Avram relayed the unbelievable process he went through to obtain a permit on short notice. 100 people may have turned out.
New issues to Consider:
July 4th event, discussion followed and it was decided we may have a convergence at Monteith Park (awaiting permit) from 11 – 2. Independence Day Celebration with free speech for all. Committee includes Alan, Geraldine, Joan and Avram.ALSO MIKE added his name
Fracking, what’s next. Garrett was not in attendance but he is working on more ideas with plans to show Gasland II again.
MTA Timeline, going forward. Hendersonville has, as yet, not committed to doing the timeline.
